Best free architecture software (2026)

2D CAD (drafting)
- LibreCAD — open-source 2D CAD; DXF-native, light, fine for drafting and details.
- QCAD Community — open-source 2D CAD with a more polished feel; the free edition covers most drafting work (DWG support sits in the paid tier).
- AutoCAD web/mobile — limited free viewing/markup tiers exist and the student license (below) is the real answer if you qualify.
BIM

- Twinmotion — free tier for non-commercial/education use; real-time archviz that studios increasingly list in job ads.
- LuxCoreRender / appleseed — open-source physically-based renderers.
Viewers (open files without a license)
- IFC: open viewers like BIMvision or the web-based IFC.js ecosystem.
- DWG: Autodesk's free online viewer; ODA File Converter for translating versions.
- Revit: the free Autodesk viewer handles .rvt in the browser.
